Before Sherlock Holmes, there was Smitty, PIRATE EYE, a seemingly hapless eighteenth century gin-guzzler with a history of piracy, a prickly disposition, and a reputation for solving cases or finding any person and possession for a HEAFTY FEE. What Smitty doesn't realize is that not all is at it seems, including his own bloodline. A new case will set events into motion that will lead Smitty to discover he sits at the center of an ancient mystery involving Plato, Sparta, immortal pirate lords, Atlantis, The Fountain of Youth, and a weapon with the power to destroy the known world. He will have to make a choice: personal gain, which he has sought exclusively for most of his life, or the benefit of his fellow man, with whom he will discover he has little in common. In the mean time, he will have to find a way to ward off an angry debtor, a blacksmith with a grudge, and the rising price of gin. Solving mysteries in a port city isn't quite a pirate's life, but Smitty will need all his sea-faring skills before the biggest mystery of his life reaches its dramatic conclusion.

Hey, flemons and gymnut, thanks for checking us out and apologies for the delayed response. We are actually working on new Pirate Eye stories to stick on our artist's website, carlyonder.com, hopefully starting next month and picking up steam from there! Carl's got some neat stuff on his site, so it's worth checking out even before the new "Pirate Noir" stories start appearing.

A French-hating pirate and a hemorrhoid joke?
You got my vote!
you got my vote. good luck.
There was nothing really terrible, here, but this was dumber than I thought it would be. There wasn't really a "pirate" feel to it (like ships and the ocean, etc.), except for the guy sort of dressed like one. Mainly, I thought that a lot more story could have been packed into each page; there only seems to be one character that we might see on a regular basis, and he's pretty bland... Also, this felt too lighthearted and left us without any reason to keep reading (no cliffhanger...).
JeffAlbertson: Thanks, glad you liked it! Smitty's got quite a bit of detective work (and probably some plundering, for old times sake)to do, to be sure.
Nice to see a full story in only 8 screens. I think the concept is fun enough to support a long run. Good Luck!
Avangi defoe: Your mastery of sea-speak is legendary, indeed, and we thank ye most kindly for your support.
Lude: Glad you laughed, and thanks for taking the time to look and comment!
I truly enjoyed this story and though there was a bump or two I thought this was a good contender...the zudamasters knew a good thing when they saw it...also I not only got the last joke it made me laugh ... good luck!

Is it weird that I started singing Hall & Oates to this?
fairemaiden: Thanks for the kind words. Smitty likes to pretend that he's a rascal with lots of love interests, but deep down he's a one woman man.
SharrrrkladyKel: We love that you love the strip. Many thanks!
Yo Ho Ho and a booty of burn!!!!! Love the strip.

Ohhh i enjoyed this, the historic settings create a good atmosphere, however some scenes felt static when they shouldn't. Overall it sounded like a good work, keep it up!
jfrancis: Thanks for checking us out-we're glad you find the concept interesting!
chumbucket: I just like typing "chumbucket..." but also, your comments are much appreciated! Any Will Eisner reference is always awesome.
Outstanding! Well done, Team Pirate Eye! I haven't seen such fine ink since my drunken rampage at Ye Olde Tattoo Shoppe in Los Angeles. (Seriously, talk to Talderoy about it.) Reminds me a little of Will Eisner's "Hawks of the Seas" meets "The Maltese Falcon." Good on ye lads!.
I like the pitch. The idea has potential. The wordplay reminds me of how Al Franken on his radio show used to describe privatizing Social Security as 'piratizing' it.
I feel you need to do more dynamic with the pages than a series of medium shots and some closeups.
Ah shucks. :) I guess that's what supportive parents are for, eh? Thanks for the vote of confidence... ;) Whether we win or lose, Smitty's story shall live on.
You are all to be congratulated for a well written and presented comic strip. I enjoyed it and hope to see much more. I gave it 5 stars and entered it as my FAVORITE.
This is without any doubt the best drawn, colored and narrated comic of the 10 presented here. People, lets get behind this effort by VOTING, ASSIGNING 5 STARS and MARKING IT AS A FAVORITE. These artists deserve to win this competition.
