The setting is a lost world in a hidden valley down in the jungles of modern-day Borneo, where dinosaurs still live among other creatures. When two foreigners, a man and a girl, crash-land in the jungle they find themselves alone and pitted against all sort of dinosaurs. Thankfully they run into a mysterious bronze-skinned savage who seems to know his way around the jungle.
Now, among various saurians, tigers, giant apes, snakes and other vile creatures, they must make their way out of the lost valley and back to "civilization". Along the way they run into some dinosaurs and, barely making out alive, are captured by the Puti-Puta, a tribe of pygmies who feast on... human flesh!
One night before they actually end up in the Puti-Puta's stew they are attacked by half-humans riding on pteradodons. However, in the turmoil that ensues, the girl is captured by the riders and taken to the land of TraLaLa, where the pteranodon riders present the captive to their queen, the mysterious black beauty Sheba. Queen Sheba, whom legend says is immortal, actually needs human blood to keep on living, especially the blood from a virgin.
Now it's up to the mysterious bronze-skinned warrior and the man he rescued, to find the captured girl, fight the pteranodon half-human riders and confront their evil queen Sheba... But the man that accompanies the bronze-skinned savage has other plans on his own, mainly to look for the hidden treasure of the Loomas, whose location he preciously carries in a map kept hidden inside his clothes.
The ordeal through which they must all go will, for once, decide who are the real predators and who are the preys.

Grounded. Humble. Good old fashioned fun, imagination and comic-adventure spirit. Man, you got shafted this month. Great shame, so I say thanks for giving us this Mystery Jungle mini-scenario. I enjoyed it.
ur work is great. I love it.
@Bryy: What arrogance are you talking about? I thought he sounded quite grounded and humble.
Not incredibly fresh, original, or relevant but a fun read none the less! Fun stuff Diego. :)
"Wow, simmer down, guys! Funny how a simple ode to the old comic strips and pulps would get such a vitriolic reaction. As Freud used to say, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Well, sometimes a comic book is just a comic book. Also, very few of you caught on my main influences, which have always been the triumvirate of great masters, mainly Foster, Raymond and Caniff, with some touches of Wally Wood and even my all time favorite comic-book artist, Will Eisner. Apparently hand drawn comics aren’t any longer the flavor of the month (or century for that matter), but I’m a little tired of seeing these entire computer rendered comics that all look more like video games (and, don’t get me wrong, I also use a computer) than comic books. Well, you’ve all got a right to your opinions so, do as you will, and good luck to all the competitors and may the best win!"
Way to completely turn me off as a potential reader. You may want to turn off your arrogance just a TAD.
lol- the bronzed skinned man!
good entry!
I will say this: You use the phrase 'bronze-skinned' a bit too much. Try some variations in the future.
I love this! People should lighten up. It's great. I would have voted for it, but there's some strong competition this month. I'd love to read a full trade paperback book of this. The pacing of the story is not suited to an eight page teaser like this. I hope to see more of this in the future!
this felt more like an illustrated book for children than a comic book. Every panel I looked at had to be explained to me through words as if it wasnt obvious already. And that's not only through the narrative boxes, but the cahracter dialogues too! "we've been hit by something!" really captain obvious??
In a way those could have worked if it was comedy making fun of itself and exaggerated comics stereotypes... but its not, its evident you took this quite seriously.
And maybe you dont read enough comics... Those computer generated comics you're tired of seeing... arent even the most popular ones, not even on this website. You're just being defensive.

Zuda September 2009 crossover comic.
Absolutely love the art here. But. As noted by others, you broke a basic rule of comics by writing captions that describe exactly what is happening in the art. Nothing wrong with descriptive captions but they should tell the reader something other than what is readily apparent in the pictures. And at risk of beating the point into the ground, your main guy is way too Tarzan. You need to give him a distinctive look of his own. Anyway, the art and color sure is fabbo.
I like it its a classic, new age kids should see classics like this, if one generation doesn't like it, doesn't mean its bad, probably they have read something similar to it, but again its a classic, and the new generations would enjoy it
You know, usually I feel like some of the B&W's on Zuda should be in color. I kinda feel the opposite here. Dig the visuals but the script bogs it down for me. There are parts that I feel overstate the obvious in the panel and that kinda kills it for me.
Even though the story seems generic, I really must compliment you on the artwork. I really dig the inking.
Abodrock, the art is an ode to old pulp. thats great! if your looking for a throwback with the story telling style at least throw us back to something worth remembering. this story is painful! all I'm left remembering is that the main character is, in fact, "bronzed skinned"
I am a sucker for jungle hijinks! Tarzan and Conan brought me into comics!
Jesus... Every single thing about this comic is as generic as it gets. This reads like every PC Comics/Eclipse Comics jungle sci-fi/Lost World ripoff from the 70's/80's that I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot. I hate that a text box tells me what is plainly going on in EVERY SINGLE PANEL, and I just kept wishing this were over... That said, the artist is a true classical draftsman, but I felt like an idiot reading such an outdated comic on the computer. What's missing is the kitch, or the wink that you're in on the joke, like Dave Stevens or Jim Silke would offer. There's nothing here worth looking at ever again, and the artist should go and do porn comics, because I'd bet they'd be beautiful...
You know what..I like this. Good to be competing with you abodrock.
Great Palette! Made it a visually enjoyable read. Always did like these kind of stories. The old school look n feel took me back to my childhood comic reading days. Fun! Good Luck!
Personally, I thought this was VERY well done. Kudos and best of luck! Cheers.
My sentiments exactly, Abodrock. Nice to see kindred spirits and that kind of comic intuition out there, even if it doesn't have any chance of winning in competition.
It surprises me actualy how coldly Mystery Jungle has been received. Ah well, each to their own and, hey, it's all comic creativity...

Nice style fitting the format well, with a hint of Tim Truman poking through, but nothing that hasn't been seen way too many times before.
Great job, man... Good luck in this competition!
Totally digging the art man, the drawings are superbly detailed to fit the pulp/retro feel of the story. One criticism tho- I think you could probably find a font and colors for the title that could work better for you. I can't believe the response is so minimal, but it seems the old school art styles are lost this month because I'm feeling that burn with my comic as well. Great job man hope to see more!
Two-and-a-half stars? You've all gone mad! This is great. Yeah, the premise is right out the the Noble Jungle Savage Stories handbook, but the execution is great.
It's upsetting to see this getting the great big snub: I love it! There's a charm to the convoluted, OTT, old-school narration and - as others have noted - the art is spectacular. Personally, I prefer this pulp grand old-fashion adventuring and high drama excitement to the same old sheeny stuff we're faced with all the time. I dig this, indeed.

I think most people have nailed it. Great art, but the premise is a carbon-copy, seems more or less lifted from all the Tarzan/Lost World stories that precede it. Honestly, I think the setting is fine, you just need a Tarzan character that isn't Tarzan. Make the world yours, the characters yours.
thank you kingofsnake, if this was my story i would want to know why it's sitting at rock bottom this month, rather than have people tell me how great it is. this is how we get better as artist. the art is good. detailed and descriptive enough without the constant, obvious commentary. if your going to narrate the entire thing tell me something i cant see. the sexual tension between the couple in the plane? what brought them to this land? when the switch to first person narration spottily makes its appearance i had to give up. just to much. you have some good art. focus on your strengths. collaborate with a writer you enjoy.
I couldn't tell if it was trying to be pulpy or not. The dialogue is over-dramatic and nonchalant in that it is just stating the obvious of what the scenario shows. And instead of an allusion to Tarzan set in The Lost World, it just feels like a copy.
So, Tarzan with dinosaurs. You really don't develop much here. All the characters are stock, without developing any personality for them. The narration is superfluous. It usually just repeats what we're looking at in a panel anyway. I like the art, it has a nice pulpy feel that goes along with the story. But at this point we're kinda looking for something that makes your story unique. And there isn't anything like that here.
Lacking charm and sophistication.
This is way too reminiscent of Edgar Rice Burroughs to me, without any really novel elements to keep my interest. Sorry. Nice art, though.
Some good solid fun pulp!
Good luck this month

I love the art and story. Only place I feel it could use some improving would be the heavy narration. At times it seemed redundant and unnecessary, (basically distracting me from the action/drama of the story). This minor detail is not enough, however, to detract from my vote. You may well have secured that. Good luck!
That's a synopsis and a half!
Two thumbs up! I love this sort of adventure action and the retro pulp fantasy is all pulled together beautifully with awesome artwork and great storytelling. Jungle men fighting giant reptiles: I'm happy! For providing classic comicbook capers, I salute you! I think you have my month's vote...
Hm, forget what I said about the Tarzan (I just read the synopsis), except for the intro. Could be a real good adventure story.
Good luck, in any case!
I love the color and vibrant art, and kind of the retro feel to it. The story is a bit too Tarzan, but, you know, who doesn't like dinosaurs?
I wouldn't have chosen to call the guy a savage, but maybe that plays into your story. By the way I think mangy is a word reserved for animals with fur, since mange is caused by mites that live in hair...
Beautiful art. This reminds me of Tarzan at the Earth's Core. Good Luck.
