In 1954, reports flood in of mysterious lights and strange airships that appear and disappear without a trace, sometimes taking animals or people with them! Suspecting some form of advanced, Russian spy initiative, the CIA’s “Counter Insurgency Unit” enlists the aid of super-scientist DOC MONSTER to help. A man of mystery, built like a linebacker with a genius IQ, Doc is tasked with uncovering and capturing the suspected communist vehicle behind the sightings. He is assigned an Agency “keeper” by the name of Carson Clay, whose job is to facilitate any needs Doc Monster may have during the investigation… and to keep an eye on him at all times. With his career as well as his marriage on the rocks, Clay grumblingly follows Doc Monster across the country until one terrifying night when all of Carson’s doubts and concerns are torn away, and the unbelievable truth of the UFO sightings come to surface. They are real. They are here. And their alien power comes to bear down on the free world. As their sinister goals are revealed, the nation cries out for Doc Monster to save them. The question is… will he?

I hope to see more of Doc Monster. Keep us posted on where the story continues!
I hope we see more if Doc Monster Dave, it's a great comic with some great art!
Doc and I thank everyone who took the time to vote and comment during this month's competition! I'll be taking a bit of time to do a reorganization regarding the Doc Monster and Ghost Zero sites, and am partnering up in a way that should provide some great new ways to view content. I'll probably be turning some attention to the too-long neglected Ghost Zero next, but new Doc stuff is in the works!
I'll make sure to announce the updates here for everyone to follow.
Happy Halloween, everyone!!
-Dave
Sorry to see this didn't win but you've clearly got the bigger story planned out and I (and others I notice) would love to see this continue somewhere - Image Comics could be worth a shot. Anyway keep us updated on progress.
Shame that Doc didn't claim this month's competition, but I'd hate this to be the end of an awesome comic concept. This is superb retro sci-fi. Don't let this be the Death of Doc Monster!
Well, Good job on cracking the top 3, but I have to say I'm a little disappointed. I read through your Ghost Zero stuff as well, and Dave. if you don't continue doing this professionally then it's our loss. I encourage you to shop the Doc around, as I am sure there is some publisher who would love to give him his due. Good Luck Mr. Flora, I'm looking forward to what you come up with next!!!
Just posted my review here > http://pimpernelsblog.blogspot.com/
Thanks, my friends!
I wanted to let everyone know about the really cool pinup that artist Francesco Francavilla (artist for Dynamites's ZORRO) did of Doc! Check it out at the Monster Blog: http://www.docmonstercomic.com
Excellent art and pulp feel. Doc Monster has my vote. Good Luck!
Really loving this comic. Can see it easily becoming a TV show.
you got mine, chum....p ;)
I'm also a fan of the artwork. You have my vote!
Last week in, folks! Doc's been sticking to the 3 spot like... Doc was to that flying saucer! (heh) Will we ever get to see the skinless aliens? What about the "Axis Device", and it's ties to Doc's secret? It looks grim....though Doc's a hard guy to keep down, I imagine.)
@TheRealGaston - Thanks, and sorry for the wordplay confusion! I do love weird turns of phrases.
@TheFarlander - Ah! A man who knows his pulp! Interesting speculation, my friend. Hmm. Perhaps "Man of Monster"?)
@J.R.Davis - Hey, J.R.! Good to see you here! Thanks!
@RKB - Thanks, RK, for not only posting probably the most thorough review of Doc I've read...but for also having a vintage, Green Hornet avatar! Double points for you, my friend!
Thanks to everyone who commented, voted and faved so far! One last push and time is up at Halloween. It's a race for the clock!
Wow - loved the artwork in this one. Fun story, and nice to see the aliens (or whatever they are) come up OUT of the ground instead of falling from the sky. I want to read more, so you've done your job.
This was a hard month but....my vote.
Amazing piece,DF.I'll definently check out the sites you mentioned.Best I've seen on Zuda so far.
Love the art in this one. Wow.

My favorite thus far. Let's get it to #1!
Nice story and nice artwork, I wish I could vote more than once. GOOD LUCK!
@Dave: Considering they were both named Clark, had Arctic refuges and were respectively considered the pinnacle of human (superhuman?) achievement, it's pretty understandable that if you were shooting for the man of Bronze, some came up with the man of steel. So that makes your Doc what? The man of Tungsten?
Great work in any event, let's hope for a strong finish.
This should win. It's easily the most well put together entry. Plus I'm a sucker for single creators. Your passion really shows. Nice art and good dialogue, except for "It was how stupid supposed super-geniuses seem." that's kind of awkward. Had to read it a few times to get what he meant. Vote.
This is beautiful. Congrats!
Thanks everyone!
(Psst..Skywatch there is my big brother...the one I made this comic for!) Heya, Bro!)
Thanks to all of the folks who have cared enough to comment, vote, fave, etc! I really enjoy reading all of the good/bad comments. Even though I developed this and share it with my cranky group of peers (..you don't have a cranky group of peers?? You NEED one!), I still never really know how people will react...if they read it at all.
I did get my $500 check from DC Comics in the mail yesterday...which is a weird trip. I had to take a picture!)
I did notice lots of reference to Superman..which I can understand with the glasses and everything. My real inspiration for Doc's abilities was more along the lines of Doc Savage...and for his looks, Rip Kirby. I guess the two together seem alot like Supes!
Well, we're entering the final stretch here..it's your guess as much as mine how it will turn out..remember, "It ain't over...till it's over!" ;)
My vote. My favorite. My Doc!! Love it!!
I am really confused (/irritated/upset?) as to why this isn't ranked number one by a mile. It's deja vu with Octane Jungle all over again...the best, most original, well-executed effort somehow wavering around third place.
Awesome in every way. Love the style.
I like this comic a lot, the art is great and I enjoyed the story a lot (I have a thing for the 50´s sci-fi), I would like to see some architecture and art from that time, that would really help to the atmosphere and the aesthetics of the comic. My vote is here, I hope you win!!!
hey im new on here, wanna be my friend?lol but seriously nice work man, i def, wanna read more of this. got my vote!
Crossover!

voted, rated, favorited. stellar work, have to see more!
No likable characters. Could have been an interesting idea. Just seems like superman got sucked in the ground, nothing else was developed.
As the author of TALES OF THE STARLIGHT DRIVE-IN this entry had me from the start because of the setting! But seriously, great art, great concept. This better win because I want to read more.
your art is really great.
Holy Hannah. Nice Job.
I love the Action Comics homage and the inter-dimensional pathway to...
Great Scott! Good work.
First off- Love the concept man! I am a sucker for the 50s in general but its especially great when all aspects (cars, environments, clothing, hair styles etc.) are portrayed well, as you have done here. The overall story I find very interesting and would like to see where it goes, however I would have liked to have had a more clear idea of what is going on with the spaceship in the comic. It's sort of a tough sell because there are a lot of panels where it his hard to tell what we are looking at and where Doc Monster is relative to the ship.
Definitely a fav and probably my vote because I really want to see where it goes. Good luck!
Thanks, everyone! Well, we're getting into the thick of things, and Doc has stuck to "Where Evils Dare" backside the whole trip. You'll notice, however, that the number one spot has been firmly held by a non-monster comic the whole month of October! A non-monster comic winning the Halloween Zuda competition?? Egads! Have people forgotten the spirit of Halloween?)
A vote for Doc Monster is a vote for change!

Hey Dave, found your blog for Doc monster a couple of months ago and was waiting for this to appear on Zuda. Great work on both this and Ghost Zero. Its hard to squeeze everything in 8 screens but well done. The art is great, you have a good handle on shading and colours, especially since you hand colour it. Hope you win!
great story and art. i hope you can continue to create more great comics with these characters.
Really dig this, great job!
Really solid entry, Dave. Expertly drawn. Good luck this month!
Pulp sci-fi wins all the time, Dave. This smells of Dark Horse and I love it. Love the art, the characters--you've got my vote.
Dave,
I dig, baby. The retro sci-fi angle is right in my bailiwick. Art is easy on the eyes and very pro. I find the period dialog to be quite fun, personally.
@Kidgloves - Woah! Doc Monster thanks for that, my friend! I appreciate you helping make October Monster Awareness Month!)
@TheFarlander - Thanks for that great response! It's my goal with Doc to write a story that's just plain fun to read. No heavy commentary, no social messages, just thrills, chills and action. I couldn't have picked a better month for Doc to compete, and I'm glad you're enjoying it!
I really like this entry... and I'm not entirely sure why. I think that the art is probably laying the foundation, but there is something innately lovable about this submission. I think the writing, art and just general tone, have all melded together quite seamlessly and have made this one of the best entries to grace Zuda's digital shores. Pulling for you Doc, lets hope you can kick it into gear for the latter half of the month.
Just sent a link to 2,366 people. Hopefully, some of them will vote.
@mpd57 - Oooo! Very good, Mike! I was wondering if anyone would notice that....kind of my homage to the classic DC comics. Dang...now I'm going to have to think of a prize, aren't I? Hmmm....
Fantastic - you've got my vote! Good luck with the competition....
OK I suppose since no-one else seems to have mentioned it and I can't even believe I didn't see it the first time around, but if you turn screen seven upside down you get Action Comics #1 :-) Am I right? I WANT A PRIZE!
Thanks, guys!
@Dhend - It's a facinating era, actually...I'm glad you're enjoying it! I plan for lots of paranoia/propoganda to be in the series. Enjoy!
@Boy Phaff - Thank you! Nice avatar, by the way!
@Scott Harris - Thanks for the kind mention, Scott! Great reviews of the Zuda comics this month.
@mattcrap - Welcome, Matt! Always a pleasure having a creator like you stop over.
@_Ryan_ - It's a touch competition, to be sure...let's see what kind of super-science legs Doc has!)
@mrgodon - Thank you, sir! I'd hoped page 3 was a nice, dramatic jump in action...)
@iergoth - Thanks! I'm glad you like it!
@maknbacon - Yes indeed, I use lots of reference that I shoot, mostly of myself. Cameras on tripods are our friends!
