Thanks, RKB!You make valid points about some of the results of transfer from one format to the other. I hope to get a chance to work that out in future pages! And you're right about OMAC--he's Kirby's baby, and I'm just a sad impersonator. Get the last couple of issues of OMAC--the last issue ends with one whopper of a cliffhanger--that story really influenced this one.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to do an in-depth critique; it's very helpful.

And the last guy I heard about who was worried about being labeled a hard-hearted man ended up with a horse head in his bed. I'm just sayin'...

OT:(or maybe not) The only real OMAC to me is Jack KING Kirby's OMAC, I actually own issues 1,2,4,5, of that comic and love the story. The John Bryne remake, and what DC has now with the OMAC project -nah.....
I did like the look of those pages, I guess that makes me reader #4????
**************************************************************
I'll hit the bad stuff first then move on over to the good stuff.
************************************************************
You have the same problem Urbis and Supertron have(had?) the looks of the screens show it was cut to fit for Zuda, it leaves the screens with a chopshop effect that doesn't thrill me. I know it is what it is but still... You could have used more of a synopsis so I and other readers would have had a better idea of what was going on.
***********************************************************
The art: yeah I see Mr. Monster/Megaton Man Don Simpson, MG in here. I also see Keith Griffin before he jumped the shark with trencher and was working on legion and the Ambush Bug.
So in other words i really like the art, the way you draw all the characters was very impressive -ya got stars for it from me man!!!!!
************************************************************
The little flying robot reminds me of a cross between booster gold's old sidekick, and a legion of super-hero's member from back in the mid-late 80's called quinslett(sp?)
I like the look of E, stands out as do the rest of the characters kicking ass art-wise for sure.
************************************************************
I also enjoyed the colors that gives it an old school feel more than anything to me, the way you intro the villain reminds me of Tharg's terror tales for 2000 AD. Damn good job on the colors setting the mood of the story from scene to scene screen to screen.
************************************************************
What's up with all this it's not in the script stuff??? A mystery that may never be answered if you don't win so vote for E!!! Is where your going with that maybe, but again it kind of threw me off a little as a plot point.
***********************************************************
Humor is not really my thing, I don't kowtow to the tick so the story didn't really grab all my interest -write more of a synopsis next time.
**********************************************************
The font is unreadable in small screen (yes I have dial up want to fight about it????), but full screen it looks like a good old school comic font words in bold for extra impact and everything, so this is a push.
************************************************************
I don't know who I am voting for yet, but it could be you, after I read your comic over a couple of times -or not I just don't know yet.
**********************************************************
Hate the choppy look of the panels, use a bigger font, you got more space to type a synopsis, use it. Great art and a story that's okay I'm trying to get into. Maybe it will grow on me Golden did. the get off my lawn monster fighting was a nice way to start so good pace -the story could have promise, and promise is good.
***********************************************************
Just to show you I'm not a hard hearted man you get a fav from me. :)

Hey, Vekesh!! I LOOOOVE Nexus, so anything in my work that reminds you of The Dude's...well...I am not worthy...but I'll take it!

Sam--I keep kicking the afterburners, but they just won't light, dadgummit. But I'll keep kickin', nonetheless!

GPH--Thanks for checking it out and dropping your observations. As to the blacks, it is odd, I prepped all the pages in photoshop (where they looked fine), but it wasn't until I pulled up one of the jpgs that I saw there was something seriously wonky with the blacks. I fixed the most glaring pages, but I obviously missed some! I think that is an effect I'll try to keep going forward...I agree, it fits the story's overall feel.

I really dig this piece, Crawdad. The art is great, the pacing I enjoyed, and the last page certainly primes me to need more. My only complaint is that some of your black levels are weak... the ink on some pages/panels lacks punch (possibly due to the transition to the Zuda format... dunno). Oddly, though, this "effect" gives the comic a print medium flair, and as some others have suggested in their posts, giving "E" a style reminiscent of older works. It's a Fave, for sure!

Troy--I think you're misunderstanding a little of what the OMAC pages are about. The "E" story isn't an adaptation of an old OMAC pitch; those are a set of samples I did years ago to try to get pencilling work. They do, however, have a link to what I did with "E". When I looked at the samples years later, I still liked some of the character designs, so I pulled them over into the "E" story. The motivations of the characters couldn't be more different--the character in the OMAC story was more in line with a megalomaniacal Dr. Skuba; the characters' motivations in this story are unique to the "E" universe. The nature of "E"'s world is completely different from OMAC's world, and hopefully people will want to learn more and vote accordingly. Thanks for the opportunity to help me clear that up, and thanks for stopping by. I very much enjoyed your work on "Golden", btw; nice job and good luck in the competition!

i agree with the facts of what Golden's troy is talking about, but not the dislike of this situation (jumping into the middle) to be honest, i kinda dig that i know NOTHING about "E" just yet. what is he like? where is he? why doesn't he know his "sidekicks"? why is he COMPLETELY oblivious? what are his "powers"? why the three eyes? these questions intrigue me to (be able to) read more of the comic and seek those answers!
and, while i'm not a competitor, i think it's (potentially) healthy/fun/natural for other competitors to post in others' areas. i think they can even appreciate each other's works! that's not a jab at troy not being enamored with "E" at all, no offense! basically, what i'm saying is that one man's trash may be another's treasure! woo woo!

Hey Crawdad. It's Troy from Golden. I went over and visited your blog to take a look at your OMAC stuff (because I have always had a soft place for OMAC) and now I realize why "E" bothered me. The story makes sense as an OMAC story but as "E" it kind of left me wondering what in the world is going on. If the story is OMAC you know who he is and you have an immediate background on him. As "E" it just kind of starts off and you kind of wonder who is this guy and why in the world is he being attacked. I know some stories just start off kind of in the middle of things but for some reason that just didn't work for me here. Now, I know I probably just pissed off some people for coming over here on your section but I really felt I needed to express my thoughts after seeing your OMAC pages. I am not trying to put anything down because the art is fantastic and if this were an OMAC story I would have loved it. You do great work and I have a feeling we will be seeing much more of Mr. Jones' work in big places. To anyone mad at me for posting on his page, I apologize. “E” ... nice to see DC promoting drug use in the young at last (I don't think). Well at least this one shows some imagination and flair, and yet, what does it all add up to? It looks fantastic! And I really do mean FANTASTIC! Professional level here. It's the combination of skill and absurdity that makes most people think immediately of Mr Monster and strips of that ilk. Wasn't all that quite some time ago tho'. Is it a modern strip or another retro-flavoured tribute to what's gone before? Again, like a lot of the other strips in this competition it all seems a bit familiar, a bit safe, a bit predictable. How the heck does it end up being predictable? With a story like that? It's so wild and free and skilful. It's quite a conundrum! I don't know, really I don't. I think I voted for Supertron a while back, even though that was shoe-horned very badly into a Zuda format and I am irritated by the obviousness of it being hacked down into a different format, but it's difficult not to like. It has a lot of charm, playfulness, skill .... and it is most definitely a COMIC! It's not anything like a pitch for anything else. Thank goodness. I'd be quite happy if I found it as the backup strip in an old indie magazine at a mart for a quid, but as a webcomic? As the future of webcomics? So many problems this month ...

Get all of your friends, loved ones and associates to stop by Zuda and take a look at Golden. If they leave a message stating that you sent them over there I will keep track and the person with the most referrals by May 23rd will receive the signed Kintaro sketch as well as a signed copy of the script. Sound fun? If you have any questions about it drop me a note here or over in the Zuda talk back section. Don't waste any time. Start getting those folks over there now!
