Sam 3.14, PI
It’s 2040, Sam 3.14 is throwback bot. A bot from a different era, a time when bots looked like bots. He’s a bot out of place. A bot who likes to wear a trench coat and guzzle oil. A bot who solves cases nobody else wants to take. Sam doesn’t remember much about his past he doesn’t let that get him down. Sam is constantly striving to prove he may be artificial but he is good as any human. Sam also knows that his brain totally human, he knows he was a military “tester”, he just can’t remember much else. For his current case Sam is hired to protect CC Laboom, a woman so desirable any man who meets her is transfixed. CC claims her jealous sister is trying to do her in. Sam soon learns this case runs far deeper than protecting a beautiful woman from her jealous sister.

Congrats, John! Looking forward to following Sam wherever it may end up,
Neal
Hi all, I am kind of assuming we will end up in 3rd. It was a good month with lots of really professional competition and some really good marketing campaigns (which is key to winning zuda). But Sam 3.14, PI will continue. United Media has rights of first refusal. If they don't take Sam then Sam will take off on his own web site.
Thanks to everybody who checked and Sam 3.14, PI. I have to say it was a lot harder the second time around. (Hence the 10K views for Sam compared to the 50K views for Demons). Still it was great fun and win or lose we hope to continue.
I'm not much of a comic reader as I have a hard time finding offbeat humor in a whole comic. Usually I'm stuck with the shorts in the newspapers. But this I can get into. Great Job
Can hardly wait to see where this goes. :D
Wow, I wanted more! I kept hoping for a Chapter 2. Keep up the good work! And, I love Working Daze!
Love Working Daze & now that I've read Sam 3:14 PI I must admit I'd like to see where you go with this storyline. Keep up the good work!!!!
I first found out about you from the Working Daze comic. I liked it so much, I went and checked out your books from the library. I laughed so hard that even my dog looked at me strangely. I hope this comic continues as well. The world needs more offbeat humor!
I'll definitely be following this wherever it gets picked up! I liked the story and pacing and the feel of the srtwork, but it's the subtle influences that really make this top-notch... Great job!
Thanks, JS, Oliver and all my Working Daze readers. The top 2 are going to be very hard to catch but hopefully Sam will continue!
I was a fan of Sam before I found out it was connected to Working Daze. Now I am a big fan of both! Awesome comic! Already voted and favorited it :)
Love it-I want more
I like it, however it seems like it -might- be giving too much away at once, be careful.
It seems like the thug in the intro would have been a bouncer type, when it turns out he's a 'regular thug' that was a nice surprise.
I really enjoy this comic. Are you planning on continuing?
This is great. Almost like a robot version of Zack Johnson... can't wait to see more.
The storyline is very familiar but they did a really nice job executing. I am looking forward to reading future installments.
I dig it - I wanted more after page 8 though...:-)
I read a lot of comics every day and I try never to miss John & Scott's work, always top notch! Thanks for the giggles.
I like it... it's great fun.
Well, after much hemming and hawing, with the voting deadline looming I'm finally voting - for Sam 3.14 P.I.. While there are a lot of qualified entries this round, I'm giving Sam the nod because the combo of robots and hardboiled detectives is one I haven't seen roll around the block before, the writing really nails the spirit of the pitch, and I can see this concept going on for years and years.
I like beautiful dames and a healthy dose of comedy in my mysteries/action adventures. I would definitely revisit Sam's world for more. Gotta pass the time between installments of Order of the Stick!
Thanks for checking out Sam 3.14, PI! If you like it please vote and tell your friends. :)
No it isn't.
I have made a serious accusation against DUAL, go to its comments and read it! It is important!
I like the whole Mike Hammer-ish feel. It leaves me wanting more. Speaking of that, when will the next installment be out?
Very clean and simple with a fun feel to this. I love the b/w and fun noir vibe. I would love to read this strip.
BTW, if we do fail to rise higher I don't believe it's due to the art, I just used up a lot of my favors the first time around. ;-)
Amazing, if they let me submit more than one at once I would enter 10 for November.
Greetings, my friends! Funny script but the crudeness of the artwork will prevent it from going any higher in the competition. I foresee that Zakour will submit so much to Zuda that the November 2008 contest will feature only comics written by him! I also predict that a nun named Sister Beatrice will trip and fall while going to the bus station, muttering a dirty word that nobody will actually hear. Farewell!
This is fun - I can't wait to read more!
Nice work John! Working Daze is still my favorite but the story here was interesting. Can't wait to read more!
BTW all, check out Scott and my other project Working Daze:

For something a bit different my friend Elena Beloff did a promo video for Sam: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsCgMcQxrm8 (she is a professional hypno therapist.)
I've changed my vote to this one. I can definitely see myself coming back to this consistently, while I might lose interest in some of the others.
Thanka Alba, the trick to Zuda is to think about what you'd want to read for a year. I promise all the story is worth reading for a year (or more).
i must confess, i didn't think much of this one the first time i saw it. However, i dig it, and could see it going places (unlike a few of the other premises this month)
Yeah! One of my publishers likes me!
Terrific! Tough detectivry will never be the same. Sam 3.14 is a bot to be reckoned with.
Very entertaining! Good Luck, John!
Good luck John!
very fun. got my vote
Good stuff. I'm making my way through the competition today and I'm blown away by all the quality comics. And since I'm a sucker for a good detective story AND robots, I'll be coming back to this one.
Dear Zuda Competitors/Creators,
I recently started a Zuda fan blog, and I would love to interview all of this month’s creators. If you would be willing to answer 5-10 questions, to be posted on the Zudafan blog, please contact me at: zudafan@gmail.com . I’ll try not to repeat any of Rob Berry’s questions. :)
Feel free to check out the blog: zudafan.blogspot.com
Thanks!
Yeah! Thanks.
well i just realized that my vote didn't take so you can add one from me as of right now.
Man we keep gaining one spot a ranking.... The top 2 are going to be tough to catch though without some proper loving from my regular readers....
... I would've liked something set entirely in a future that is a nineteen-forties idea of what the future would be. That's probably because I'm an old git. Spam, email, software is all an irritation in my daily life so ...

Groovy peaked in the 60's, and was largely gone by the 70's. From our current vantage point, I find people tend to telescope past decades. The 20th century is now down to WWII, the 50's, and the 70's. When assigning dates to past trends, we tend to aim for the nearest one of these catch-alls. Therefore, the late 60's though the 80's are becoming "the 70's". Guess that's why I was wary of THAT 70's SHOW. I was afraid they'd get it wrong, and, from what I hear, sometimes they did.
