HA Love it! I especially love the concept, a counselor to the super-heroes! I've toyed with a comedy series on something like that, but in the established comics worlds. Can you imagine a counselor asking Batman..."so tell me about your childhood"...or Scott Summers asking..."so tell me about your family?"

Anyway, sorry, rambling moment. Liked it a lot. Nice art, nice color scheme.

Once again my apologies on the length of my grouping my responses. In more exciting news in Toronto on sunday (if your in the area) Udon is having thier SF tribute artbook launch party at the Beguiling and I am in the book so I will be there so you should be too :D

Reuben- Thanks I am glad ya liked it and it was something that stuck with ya :D
-----------
Frogwo- Im pleased y liked and thank you for the comment :)
-----------
J.w.- No worries, first minute or last I am glad ya dropped in either way :) As for the ending I had more in store for the rest of this interaction between the doc and Z so it may be that with that inside knowledge it seemed like more of a cliffhanger to me. The different clients is a good idea I was jazzed about the idea of group therapy sessions :D
-----------
Flya- Thanks I must say I love your comment ;)
-----------
Quas- Thanks it is always flattering to be dug, and I think pure luck is my only hope now :( :D
-----------
RKB- hahaha no worries in this thread man I always appreciate it when people take the time to break down and post how they feel and interpret the comic in front of them. As for the brown pages, I originally had the idea to do line paper, like the yellow pads that often get used for note taking but I have found that having a pattern with horizontal lines like that can create bad tangents and readablitliy problems, which in a printed book I think people would have dug but on the old interwebs would have just frustrated people. Also applying colour of any kind to that really yellow paper and blue lines would have been problematic and may have been visually....painful so I down graded that idea to the brown paper, which I really liked so it is unfortunate that it didn't take with you. I am glad you like how contained it is but this story goes for about another 8 pages before the conversation ends, so for me it is fully incomplete....but then again I have insider info on that front. I am glad this caught you when S-Type didn't, as for the "change in gears" I just went with what felt right for this idea when I came up with it. Then again it could be the ADD and inability to sit still for 10 min that gets me changing directions :D (oh and if ya look my initials are actually A.D.D. so I think my fate was sealed on that front a long time ago)
-----------
As for the picto speak the old cartoons and books you could get as a kid where you had to read a phrase with just pictures were one of my favorite things back in the day so it is totally part of my picto speak love, and I think it adds a nice little extra flavor too, as long it is being used for a reason and not just thrown in as visual noise :)
-----------
As for the the Godzilla movies, i love them, but I am not as well versed as the true Zilla fans out there. The main inspiration for it was just plain old Ultra-man, I have always loved the design of him in a big way :)
-----------
I have found I am really REALLY not a big fan of narration boxes. I feel like there is generally a better way to get exposition across. Not that there is anything wrong with narration boxes just I find they get over used and they can tend to turn into a crutch rather than trying a way to work it into the drawings or the dialogue.
-----------
Ah well it seems the brown paper really threw the flavor off for you, which sucks for me but I am always gonna advise you to answer that question with "fav" when it comes to my comics :D
-----------
I am glad ya liked the chatting to hiself.
-----------
I was happy with that and really glad you liked it because I really didn't want him to have to waste dialogue to get the "lunch" across.
-----------
Thanks I try and think my way through a character a bit so that it is coming through a bit to ya means, hopefully, that I am getting better at it.
-----------
Thanks, I really enjoy less dialogue when it is appropriate too so I am glad that it worked out this time :)
-----------
Hahaha well I hope to get more comics on Zuda..... in print and anywhere else they could be as well.
-----------
Indeed, I also have a tendency to get bored every now and again and trying to come up with different picto speak bubbles was a hell of a lot of fun :D
-----------
I am totally glad the doc came across as likable I had my worries about that happening, giant robots are usually (or have seemed so to me) an easier sell to people they tend to root for them a lot more readily :)
-----------
Thanks I liked the name of it too but the GF after the fact came up with another good suggestion of calling it "Issues" which I thought would have been a goodun too :)
-----------
I was really friggin happy that Z's pantomime came across I had some worries with weather people would interpret it as him fitting an evil version of himself or just lose the plot at that point so I struggled with how much to make Z and pantomime monster Z different as well as how many colour cue's and such to have in there. And I glad it worked as a break from the speaky stuff so it wasn't just me trina beat people down with words.
-----------
It isn't easy per say but it is a hell of a lot of fun I totally recommend it as a way for people to take a break from the text in comics and have some silly fun.
-----------
Hahahaha yeah just you watch next time will both have comics about liver spots, totally different overall but both about liver spots hahaha
-----------
I really started to feel the text and Z/Symancowicz interaction at this point so I am glad it came across smoothly and gave some personality to them :D
-----------
hahaha if only he weren't an arse. I had hoped it would come across well and not just seem like a lame outro joke, the sucky symbols after the drum roll so I am happy that didn't happen.
-----------
hahaha the brown paper again, well I will keep that in mind in the future. Indeed one of the great things about super creatures is lord knows they can't not get into ruckus type situations for long. So I woulda had z on my side to help avoid that pitfall.
-----------
Well I am glad that it caught you eventually cause the more the merrier around hmya.
-----------
And again thanks for the extensive comment I really enjoy getting into the "making of comics" and the "whys" of comics so thanks for that :D
-----------
Drr- Damn I am happy to have your vote! And I am glad you liked the comic so much I enjoyed making it in mucho grande ways. And easy or not it is fun to explore the characters :D
-----------
Mp- Hey hey 6/10 not faboo but not too bad especially for your hat rating :D
-----------
Dan- I am disappointed it isn't ranked higher too but I think every one not in the top spots feels that way :D and I always like happy......members .....heh heh heh
-----------
Dreams- Thanks, that it tickled your fancy pleases me greatly.
-----------
Fly- Other types and group therapy sessions would have been hella fun to explore :D And I explained the brown paper decision in my post to RKB so I am gonna C/P it here.....cause I am apparently lazy *shame face
"I originaly had the idea to do line paper, like the yellow pads that often get used for note taking but I have found that having a pattern with horizontal lines like that can create bad tangents and readablitliy problems, which in a printed book I think people would have dug but on the old interwebs would have just frustrated people. ---------
Marcq- I am happy to take the 5 stars and I would have loved to see more of the story too :D
---------
Olly- Whoohoo more votes=happy. I dunno but if they did then theme months may be on the rise :D
---------
King- Well I will take the future potential a vote with a smile :) And no worries I have a far thicker skin than getting bent out of shape, I just thought apeing was the wrong term for it cause that implies that I am copying or mimicking ( I looked up the web definition on it to make sure and so that my response wasn't inappropriately out of context.) I am glad my response gave ya the info you were looking for theres nothing better then getting some comic geekery back and forth going on :D
---------
Ir- I givauled I totally laid down on the job on that one, I apologize I think you and mpd are both doing hella good work on your respective blogs and I am disappointed that I dropped the ball on supporting that.
---------
Josh- Hey hey top 3 not bad. Yeah we can't talk to much about the case because of confidentiality but the last thing that happened was my lawyer called Josh a "nerd" and his objected and said that my mom dresses me funny. So it is really heating up!
---------
John- Woohoo another top 3 :D And thanks man I am looking forward to seeing more from you on Zuda as well, good luck with your new book two. And dude what you said on your last entry of it being wicked hard to get people to come out the second time around....damn you were right man!
---------
Jeebas- Well Jeebas hopefully I will have the power of Gord on my side cause that seems like the only way that people aint gonna get themselves "cut at this point :D
---------
griff- Thanks I am glad ya liked it enough that it got around your bias. :D
---------

Now I think I have used up my quota of smilies and run on sentences so I will cut it off there.

Sorry for parachuting in at the last minute here, Stplmstr.

Problems is the most roundly professional strip of the month. The writing is humorous and engaging, the art is appealing and consistent, and the use of the pictorial word balloons is very fun and well-executed.

The only thing that left me wanting was the lack of a definitive ending to the story; since you don't have a true cliffhanger there doesn't seem to be much left to say on Z's visit, so it would have been gratifying to have ended with a "see you next week," or some such (actually, having a different client every 8 screens would make for a pretty good storytelling device, and would really utilize the format). That's just a personal preference, of course. Regardless, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Screen 3 was particularly striking; really gave a sense of Z's size and presence.

Alex your responses are almost as long as my average comment, thanks now I don't feel so alone any more. ;)
**************************************************************
Why the brown newspaper print look to the pages??? It didn't do anything for me I didn't like it.
***********************************************************
I'm not one of those paper that think 8 screens on Zuda have to be a done in 1 story -self contained, but I enjoy reading them. If it never gets another screen it's a nice little story.
*********************************************************
Z reminds me in his looks of that giant robot Godzillia battled it out with in one of his old movies, and also the dark horse comic hero zero. I was wondering if this was some of the inspiration for the comic?
*************************************************************
S-Type was okay, this is a lot better than okay and a much different style read. Why such a different direction for this????
**********************************************************
I didn't think it was so much funny, as smartly written and drawn. I liked the pig latin and the pictospeak. Yes it reminded me of Ak by josh, but also those old WB cartoons where you would see someone thinking of a screw, and a ball. i.e. screwball. Not saying it's a rip-off, just a cool touch more people should think about doing, it gives it that extra something different.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 1 Great set up for the first screen. Easy to read, very good panel layout. My eyes could go from panel to panel with no confusion (that doesn't always happen in comics you know), and a good clip to the dialogue. No text box thought balloons to be seen anywhere, your learning about the character's through their interactions.
************************************************************
Art/colors/letters/script all very fine throughout, if it just wasn't for that brown page effect you have going on, I wouldn't be asking myself to fav, or not to fav???
*************************************************************
SCREEN 2 I freaking love the fact this guy talks to his self!!!
***********************************************************
Panel 1 I enjoyed the small touch of 'have a good lunch honey xox'.
************************************************************
Panel 3 Nice the hear him be glad his table was still there. You put a lot of little details into the story, and the Doc's character which I liked a lot.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 3 Really good panel layout, love the fact you didn't put any words on this page, art is good at showing what's going through the Doc's mind, that's all you need. A lot of impact on this screen, this is the way a 'big moment' layout should be done.
***********************************************************
Where only on screen 3 and we already have met the focal point of the story. No drag arseing around here, your moving things along. Good for you to not repeat the slowness of S-Type. It's not just a genre that is so different it's the pace, very impressive change between then and now. If this doesn't win I hope to see more comics on Zuda from you.
************************************************************
SCREEN 4 Hi is a control knob. The sight-gags you can have in a comic if you use picto-speak the options are limit less.
*************************************************************
I really enjoyed the personality of Z that came through, and how even though it was early and into Andreas's lunch break he was still ready to help him. You did a good job of showing how much he cared, which made him a character I could really root for. Z too as far as that goes.
************************************************************
The name of this strip was well chosen, and a well written synopsis as well. It went well with what we see of the character in this comic.
**************************************************************
SCREEN 5 1 of the best screens out of the 8. Z's recounting of the fight with the picto-speak was very interesting, and funny.
***********************************************************
In a comic that's mostly talking this also added a nice action element, with the well done layout, you packed the screen. Z's personality also came through here.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 6 Z got hurt... the monster laughed.... Z got angry... he charged up... blast!!!... the monster thought oh crap!!!!..and the monster is out. Great pace and I know picto-speak can't be that easy so fantastic job on that.
********************************************************
The symmetry of this comic being in the same contest as middle-aged monster is not lost on me, it made both comics funnier in context to me.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 7 I really enjoyed the personality of the Doc and Z that came across in this screen.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 8 the kicker and the pay off. This monster didn't do anything to be attacked!!! Z is trying to work on his anger and hate of big monsters. It was a funny and kind of thoughtful ending. Z looked like a little kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar, and the Doc was let down but still willing to help his patient, kind of like what if Dr.Phil wasn't an arse???
***********************************************************
I think where you can go with this comic is pretty limitless in story possibilities, just show us a new patient. Just watch out for it becoming talking heads, and for the life of me I don't get the brown newsprint look.
***********************************************************
4/5 stars and a fav, I didn't start out liking it that well but after a few re-readings it grew on me.

Hey you know what, I'm gonna move my vote onto Problems. I liked the art anyway, and on reflection I think telling it from the point of view of the doctor has more mileage. Why are half of this month's comics about superbeings having ordinary problems? Is it coincidence, or did the powers-that-be save them up so they could run them head to head?

Hey, great response!

Don't take my remarks about the picto-speak the wrong way. It's use certainly isn't making me like your comic less. However seeing as you've been in the competion before, and Josh is one of the few people to be able to extend their entry to 16 pages, I think my presumption that you had seen arachnidkid and were aware of his use of the picto-bubbles, was fair for me to make. If you'd been brand new to Zuda, I would've been more likely to think "oh, well, maybe he was just unaware that someone else has used that device recently with some success." I know alot of people mentioned it, so i'm kinda assuming your long explaintion to one line at the very beginning of my comment was sort of for everyone, but like I said, I don't think anyone is going to hold it against you, your comic is good in it's own rite, the picto-speak is just something thats going to make alot of zuda readers say "Oh I've seen that before" instead of when Josh did it, where the response was "Oh cool, thats a different way of doing things." I think it's really a matter of proximity.

I think i'm pretty heavily invested in MAM this month myself, but you never know, if near the end of the month you're in second and MAM's no where near first, I could see myself coming over to the Problem side.

Auto: Thanks I am glad that it is at least enough of a differance to make you not think it is copied, but hopefully if I get the chance I can expand on those differences :D
--------
Steiner: haha thanks man I really enjoyed the middle age monsters "lets face it there just arn't too many female monsters out there." Is a classic :D And I gotta say I am glad your back too and whatever the outcome of this competition I hope we both get to show more of what we got weather in a head to head fashion or in separate competitions :)

------
Pti: woohoo 5 stars and a fav in there too, thanks :D
------
Virt: Thanks I am glad ya liked it, I am hoping that the place where it left off leaves people wanting more. I would have liked to have more but I didn't want to sac the pacing. :D
-------
Sug: Thanks I am glad ya liked it :D
-------
Curj: I can see what you mean but with the dislike of pig latin and the reception of s-type that people are less likely to be accepting of speech patterns rather than images. So that is one of the reasons I went with the picto speak.
------
Chuck: I am glad ya like z he was a lot of fun to draw.
------
King: I think apeing isn't applicable here, firstly you would have to suppose I had seen Josh's comic before I did Problems and that I was imitating that and secondly that Josh was the first one to use picto speak or used it extensively enough as to have it be a trademark of theirs. And picto speak has been used by lots of people before me or josh did. Otherwise you might want to go let http://themrock.deviantart.com/art/Beatnik-Beauty-97662983 that they are apeing josh too. I have been using picto speak for a long time before Zuda existed and claiming that it is just a copy of someone else is kinda off the mark. It is a technique as much as using word ballons or thought bubbles and in the same classification. Claiming it belongs to one person or another is kinda off the mark. I mean if your gonna accept that why not tell steiner that "besides his apeing of godzilla this is a great comic" But you can see it as ya like :D (oh and M.A.M. is a hell of a comic :D)
--------
I used picto speak to work as a difference between human doc and the giant creature Z. But also to work as a metaphor for the relationship between doctor and patient. That often times people present a picture in therapy and it is the Doc's job to decipher the meaning and put it in context (if they are good at their job anyway) I have toyed with the idea that Z would start to use words as he started to work through his problems but I hadn't decided on that count yet.
------
I kept the doctor kinda wooden cause that is how I have perceived psychiatrists. Not wanting to come off to aggressively, or to seem shocked ect. So I wanted him to be very moderate in his appearance and expressions. But your right I may have been able to push it farther. I just wanted to leave the expressive stuff to Z.
------
The plot is a doctor who is trying to help a superhuman deal with regular problems. Like anger managment. Which I think is fun and interesting, looking at it from the super human perspective. And showing the results in how Z deals with it in his super hero style duty's. And if ya think I can do that in a fun interesting way then I hope that tips you onto my side of the fence otherwise you gotta go with your gut and vote the way you think best :D
------
Pbd: Well I am glad the month is ticklin your fancy ( I of course hoped this month would be an easy win for me :D )
------
Poe: Thanks man I am stoked that ya liked it :D
------
Dash: Thanks I am happy with how it turned out and I am glad you liked Z too :D
------
Saul: Thanks man, nah not watercolor paper just a photoshop trick to try and make it look that way :D Well I am absolutly a Bachelo fan so having that comparison there isn't too bad.....hopefully it is not too close though :D
------
Carlan: Thanks I am glad you liked it, the pantomime fight was my favorite thing to draw on this comic so I am glad to hear I am not the only one who liked it :D
------
JFX: Thanks mang I hope I win too :D
------
Bob: Thanks man I am glad ya like the way it is lookin so far and given the chance I think it can be what your thinking it can. Thanks for the vote :D
------
Fami: Thanks I am glad I was able to raise the level of clarity on this one and it has ya likin it :D
------
Kid: Hahaha well mabey me and Josh are in a pitched legal battle at the moment o who knows if I will :D No offense taken the only thing that would suck is if I was getting worse :D
------
Bryy: Ah it is too bad that that didn't hit the mark for you cause man was it fun to draw :D

Great. Favorite. For whatever reason, I like the pictograms this time around, as opposed to in the comic from a month or two again.

Love the art (makes me think of a lot of things from the past, but not so much to make me think of it being copied.)

I've been meaning to tell you how much I enjoyed your comic for a few days now and I finally have the chance! I'm glad you came back for a second go around. I'm a little disappointed I can't throw you my vote this time around. Great stuff!

Great art style, pretty good story so far, really liked the robot speak and really liked the robot artwork. Even the art in the office seemed well done with a good attention to detail. The only thing that bothered me about this comic is that we don't really get to any resolution.

Dr. Andreas Symanowicz, a seasoned yet low-profile counseling psychologist, devotes his professional energies to the treatment of patients with decidedly superhuman issues. Endlessly patient, singularly insightful, and uniquely qualified, Dr, Symanowicz works behind the scenes—and sometimes in the limelight—to nourish the mental health of the world’s exceptional citizens, ensuring that they remain servants of the common good. Though this work regularly pits the merely human doctor against vastly superior forces, his command of the spoken word and sensitivity to hidden desires brings those forces to heel and makes him a force to be reckoned with in his own right. Superhuman or merely human, everyone has problems, and, whatever the scale of your problems, Dr. Symanowicz can help you.
