Hello stealth, humor isn't really my go to genre, but you know I enjoyed your comic. I like the vampire angle you can use it for jokes, or not as you need it. It kind of opens the range up, on what kind of gags you can have in this comic. I also enjoy anything with a supernatural element, sans zombies. the art was very impressive throughout, I understood your dialogue with no problem. Not so much spelling errors there were a few spots the english didn't sound quite right (meaning a native speaker), but it added a little quirkiness to the characters that i liked. I also liked the little bit see through word balloons, i think they fit a lighter funny comic.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 1 Nice set-up of showing her family, and having J talk to the readers was a nice touch, it let you get to know the character well, from screen 1. I really liked the this is my school/ somebody from the audience hey move we can't see/ who cares about school gag. Nice dialogue here.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 2 I really liked the screen composition here, the purple dot pattern in panel 1 was very good. The way you had the visual cue of the word balloons getting more see through, as J's thoughts wandered more, was well done.
*******************************************************
In panel 4 people in the states don't say mates. It would be more like friends, buddies, or pals, it sort of stood out to this American.
**********************************************************
The last two panels, the way you did the vampire reveal, was great really enjoyed the art work here. Like I said before one of your best screens, everything just clicked.
*******************************************************
SCREEN 3 I got a laugh out of Julie talking to the reader on this screen. The whole I go to church was a funny line. In the bottom panels I also liked the expressions on Julie's face as they changed, good job there.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 4 The bat girl thing was funny. I enjoyed the expression on Julie's face when she was stopped from speaking to avoid a R rating. One of the things that stands out about this comic is how much Julie breaks the fourth wall to talk to the reader. I really enjoy this part of the comic, it makes it standout from the rest.
***********************************************************
SCREEN 5 a very funny screen that plays up the screw-up vampire aspect. I really enjoyed the humor here.
**********************************************************
SCREEN 6 I liked the prat-fall, and the tomato juice line at the end. I also like the look at my vampire fangs bad girl panels you have, and then she screws up. Nice humor here.
********************************************************
SCREEN 7 HA HA!!!
**********************************************************
SCREEN 8 I liked the panel layout here and death making a guest appearance, I also really enjoyed the colors you chose for this screen. I also liked the fighting between the brother and sister, nice humor there. I also liked them bringing mom into it.
************************************************************
I enjoyed your comic, 3/5 stars from me.

Stealth I think you're justified in your self defense, and I don't think you came off as overly defensive.
Juliette isn't doing so poorly because it is irredeemably bad, it just appeals to an audience that isn't strongly representative in Zuda. This is a strip for teen girls, and I don't think there are a lot of teen girls in the Zuda audience. The Zuda audience are probably mostly men 13 to 40, which is why stuff that has more action and zombies has always been more successful.

Cedric, not everyone is going to like your comic. It's just a fact of life. I'm sorry if you feel like we're being unfair, but all they can do is read the interview, and if it doesn't change their opinions, it doesn't. It's not their fault for not "getting" the comic, or even for linking it to Buffy.

You won't win anyone over by telling them that they are wrong about what they think.

TO ALL:
Please, read that thing :
http://leftyfilmsblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/interviews-cedric-poulat-luc-poets_08.html

you'll able to find all the answers to what you are against:
this is about humorous comic strip, not a continuing plotline, dramatic and epic story, or whatsoever...

---I'll not dare to compare to Franck Cho, but just think about "liberty meadows" when your read my comics.
this is the same principles. It's all about short comic strip !

---And , please; stop linking Juliette with Buffy. that's a nonsense and a lack of vampire culture, there's no link at all, and this is absolutly not about the same subject (buffy is a vampire slayer, Juliette is a vampire, but do not wish to be one of those, she kill anyone, and the story is about her life; not her fate as a slayer... ).

---for the grammatical errors and all, please let me know what these errors are. That's easy to say "too many mistakes" ok, great.
Told me about them instead, reading that the grammar is not A-OK will not help me at all, telling me what's wrong will be fine.

I really cannot understand however; thoses mistakes; mispellings and errors were reviewed and corrected by the zuda staff.
So, yeah, maybe I forgot some of them while I was adding the new version...who knows. I spent too many hours on that, and loose a bit the sense of reality on it.

--Once again, maybe that's no excuse but I add to made the story; art, inks, colors, lettering, general design... everything by my own;ok I'm not the only one ; but I'm french, and yes, English is not my 1st language. I'm sorry if there's mistakes; and we had less than 1 week to take care of that problem before the beginning of the competition.

--I guess if "Juliette" would win the competition, I will probably have more time to take care of that, but I'm completly aware that's over for her in the zuda competition.

---I just hope that "Juliette" will meet at least some other good reviews until the end of december. That's always har to see your "baby" failing.

Hope I was clear, and my english no TOO bad ;)
Thanks for support / feedback.
see ya.

In regard to the bad/odd grammar usage: I just gave Juliette (and everyone else in the strip) an Eastern European accent while reading the lines, and it made them not only tolerable, but much funnier, as well. I see that the creator is from France, and I did try a French accent, but Romanian is much more effective. I actually liked this strip a lot - for the first half... It had a funny intro and pretty great art, but then the story didn't go anywhere. It becomes a series of one-page gag strips instead of an actual continuing plotline, which I think is where this series would really shine. Its Buffy-as-vampire angle still has a lot of material to be mined, but unfortunately, it does not live up to that potential.

Biggest nit-pick is probably the grammar. There are a few errors that stand out and some jokes that just don't make the translation quite right. Still, I love the animation in your facial expressions and the bright colors are fun. They fit the tone very well.
Good luck! ^_^

It's nit-picking, but I hope all future Zuda entries will AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE the translucent word balloon effect. It just strains the eyes. If you're worried about covering up the artwork completely with traditional word balloons, then use less words on the page.

Good luck with the competition and congratulations.

Really interesting concept. Very original. Some of the dialogue and situations don't sound really true to life, though, like "I'm not legal for that... relax, I'll be in 10 minutes." I have a real problem with the second to last panel on page 8. I think it should've been broken up into several panels; you tried to cram several moments of action into one shot. Interesting comic, though, and it was well worth my time reading it!! Good luck.

I think this style will develop nicely with time. It reminds me of J.Scott Campbell's work and I'm a fan. Like I think was mentioned below, the story needs to decide whether it is a vampire, buffy, kind of thing, or solely a Clueless kind of story without the vampires. It seems like it hasn't picked a direction yet. Even still I love this kind of thing that takes place in a girl's world with all the funny material there is in that world to utilize.lol Cute stuff.

A very good effort. Nice work. As the story went on the humor felt or became very dry. The story felt like it was just dragging on. The art work was nice, I care more for story. I don't care if its stick figures if its compelling I'm hooked. The title and concept somehow raised my expectations for it. I look forward to see how it evolves and definitely believe it deserves a chance to grow and mature.

Overall, I'm surprised at the initial criticism toward this comic. I thoroughly enjoyed it! The two-toned coloring creates a great and unique light/dark effect. The cut-&-paste didn't stand out any more than it should have during the one page intro of family & friends, (I thought it lent itself well to the narrative joke). There were a few spelling errors that hurt, but artwork was great and the story was interesting and FUNNY. Reminded me of an old Image comic called "Aaron Strips". I liked that too! I'm looking forward to more. Good luck!

I think this strip would work fine without the vampire angle. It seems kind of superfluous. Your best gag page doesn't even reference it. She can go out in the daylight, can see her reflection, doesn't shape-shift or even have fangs most of the time. I just don't think you need it.

I like the vibe of the art - lends a very teenage vibe to the whole thing - keeping with your main character. Not sure if I can relate to the juliette though. It's almost like if a Barbie doll became a vampire. There's no real drama or anything in the story or character to grab on to. I relate more to the guy not getting any!
